Clayton Antone Huben

July 1, 1928 - July 3, 2021

Clayton Antone Huben passed away on July 3, 2021, at his home in West Bloomfield, Michigan from complications of heart disease. He was 93.

Mr. Huben, son of Peter and Alice Huben, grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin with his two sisters, Carol and Judy. He served in the US Air Force and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Mr. Huben was one of the first employees of Williams International and watched the firm grow exponentially over the course of a 30-year career in Research and Development. He was part of the team which designed a Cruise Missile engine that is on display as part of the permanent collection at the National Air and Space Museum. After retirement, he volunteered at Henry Ford Museum and the Yankee Air Museum. He was also a long-time member of the Early Engine Club.

Mr. Huben was a devout member of St. Fabian’s Catholic Church, and his quiet faith was an inspiration to all of those around him. Mr. Huben was a loving and devoted family man. His was one of the first families to move to Woodcrest North in West Bloomfield. His home served as ground zero for friends of all ages when his children were young. And it remains a place of joyful gathering as his children have grown and his neighbors and friends reached retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine Ciaramitaro Huben, his son Peter Huben (Laura) of Canton, his daughters Catherine Huben (Bill Perry) of Washington, DC, Susan Barragato (Doug) of Farmington, Sharon Troyan (Brian) of Otisville, Dr. Marianne Huben (Tim Drutis) and 9 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. Huben was predeceased by his beloved son Carl.

One of the many expressions of Mr. Huben’s compassion and generosity of spirit was his life-long love of cats. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Humane Society of Michigan.
