Michael "Duke" DeLong

August 15, 1936 - January 2, 2022

Michael D. DeLong, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on January 2, 2022.

Michael was born the first of four children, to Charleton and Mae DeLong, on August 15, 1936. He graduated from University of Detroit in 1960, and married the love of his life, Sharon Marie Kroha on December 6, 1969. Michael was a Sales Executive for a Steel Casting company for most of his career, while devoting his time to his faith and the raising of his four children. Michael was most passionate about his relationship with the Lord, and would divide his time between sharing stories of his faith to anyone who would listen, listening to jazz, and eating anything sweet he could find in the kitchen.  Known as “Duke” by anyone who knew him, he was an avid golfer, loved a good cigar, and had a penchant for telling awful jokes. His devotion to his family and friends was immeasurable.  He left behind a legacy of integrity, humility, humor  and grace.

Michael is survived by his four children Michelle DeLong, Lisa (Simon) Bailey, Kayla (Ross) Linton, and Joseph (Claire) DeLong. His grandchildren Arthur, Charles, Jack, Michael, Henry, Conner, Emma, William, Benjamin, Madeline, Mary and Catherine will remember him most for his hands that held them close, his tickles, and an endless supply of nicknames that always stuck. He will be greatly missed by his younger siblings, Patty, Maureen, and Sharon.

For those who knew Duke, you were lucky to have experienced his wit and friendship. Duke, to your family you were our lighthouse steadfastly guiding us through any storm, and providing a light that always showed us the way home. To say you will be missed is not saying nearly enough.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, January 14th, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at  St. Regis Catholic Church, 3695 Lincoln Rd., Bloomfield Hills. A luncheon will be held for those wishing to celebrate his life at Birmingham Country Club at 1750 Saxon Dr., Birmingham, MI 48009 immediately following the Memorial Mass.
