Helen Hiotaky (nee Glavas) passed away March 6, 2023 at the age of 84. She was the beloved wife of the late Jeffrey for 56 years. Devoted mother of Cindy (James Sr.) Grove. Cherished grandmother of Julie (Jonathan) Dean, Melanie (Nicholas) Ilitch, and James Jr. (Carolyn) Grove. Caring great grandmother of Jackson, Charlie, and Sloane Dean and Lucas, Jacob, and Olivia Ilitch. Dear sister of the late Kathy (Art) McNabb and John Glavas and sister-in-law of William Sr. (late Athena) Hiotaky, Sophie (late George) Paron, late Stephen (late Guinn) Heotaky and the late Sophie Hiotaky.  She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen graduated from Detroit Commerce High School in 1956 and went onto attend Oakland Community College, graduating with her associate degree in management in 1986.  Helen began her career in finance as a bookkeeper and bank teller, working her way to bank manager, retiring from Comerica Bank after 43 years of dedication. Helen was a long-time member of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church’s Ladies Philoptochos Society and she loved to travel, especially throughout Europe. Helen was lovingly cared for by the staff and caregivers at Anthology of Troy Memory Care Assisted Living and enjoyed going on outings with her friends during her stay. Helen had a very kind and generous heart. She will be dearly missed by her beloved family and friends.

Mrs. Hiotaky’s family will receive guests on Thursday, March 9th, from 4:00 pm. – 8:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. Trisagion Service at McCabe Funeral Home 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. She will lie in state Friday, March 10th, at 10:30 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Liturgy at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 25225 Middlebelt Rd., Farmington Hills. Mrs. Hiotaky will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, Detroit. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church and the Alzheimer’s Association in Helen’s name.
