Margaret Maher

November 22, 1927 - July 15, 2023

Margaret Maher (nee Grogan) passed away peacefully on July 15, 2023, age 95, at home with family present.

Margaret is survived by her children James (Haitao), John, Daniel (Marilyn), Betsy, and Terry and her sister Cecelia Ann (Michael) McClure, along with ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband James, her son Thomas (Melissa), her parents Carl and Cecelia Grogan, her sister Leila (Stanley) Janczarek, and her brothers Robert (MaryJane) Grogan, Donald (Carmen) Grogan, and Carl (Ellen) Grogan.

Margaret attended Gesu Catholic School, Immaculata High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Wayne State University, followed by a Master’s Degree from Marygrove College. Margaret will always be remembered as a loving and ardent matriarch of her family. If there were no children in need of support or prayers (and even if there were), she would turn her attention to her grandchildren. Widowed at 42 with 6 teenage children, she started her teaching career to support her family. She taught Spanish and English at Redford High School in Detroit for 22 years, retiring in 1990. She will also be remembered for her wit, her kindness, her courage and her strength of character.

Margaret's family will receive friends on Thursday, July 20th, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. Her Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 21st, at 10:00 a.m., with gathering beginning at 9:30 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 4300 Walnut Lake Rd., West Bloomfield. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
