Cheryl Jane Ruszkiewicz, age 76 of Canton, passed away October 7, 2023. She was born July 18, 1947 to Claude and Margaret June Lawrence.

Proudly born and raised in Labadie, Missouri, Cheryl was a graduate of Washington High School. After high school, while working in administration for an Army recruiting center, she met Thomas Ruszkiewicz. The two clicked immediately and married on July 2nd, 1966.

With Tom being a Michigander, Cheryl packed her bags and said goodbye to Missouri. The couple moved to Garden City before settling in Canton where they remained for 45 years. Not wasting any time, they started a family of their own and were blessed with three children. Cheryl excelled at motherhood and loved to take care of the home. She liked to keep things fun and was known to play little jokes on the kids while growing up. After her youngest was grown, Cheryl took a job as a bookkeeper for a local restaurant. She decided she wanted to head back to school and started attending Schoolcraft College, where she earned her associate degree. She began working for Washtenaw Community College and dedicated 15 years as an administrative assistant before her retirement.

Always up for anything, Cheryl wasn’t one to sit around and wait for life to happen. She loved to garden, golf, and play cornhole and tetherball. She looked forward to vacationing on Houghton Lake and spending time outdoors, having picnics with her family. She especially loved to cook and was quite insistent in making sure that everyone was fed. Her love of life and laughter will remain a treasured memory for all those who had the joy of knowing her.

Cheryl was the beloved wife of the late Thomas for 54 years. Loving mother of Thomas Jr. (Leslie), Christine (Brian) Zaborny, and Randy (Anna). Dear grandmother of Justin (Mackinzie), Ally (Vinny) Bucciarelli, Tyler Dickson, Zachary Dickson, Emily Dickson, Connor Zaborny, Tyler Zaborny, Emma Grace, Caleb, Mitchell (Sara) Boldin, Nicholas (Kelsey) Boldin, Zackary Boldin, Karlee (Mark) Roux and Dominic Boldin. Also survived by her sister Connie (John) Stinson and brother Stanley (Pat) Lawrence. She was predeceased by her sister Carol Branson and brother Rodney Lawrence.

Visitation for Mrs. Ruszkiewicz will be held on Saturday, October 14th, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. Her Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, October 15th, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Ruszkiewicz’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
