Susan E. Loree, 74, of Farmington, MI, passed away on November 26, 2023. She was born on July 9, 1949, the daughter of late Douglas and Hazel Smith in Flint, MI. She was the beloved wife of late Stephen, with whom she shared 49 years of marriage.

Susan was the loving mother of Samantha (Takuji) Kawakami, Benjamin (Catherine), Jonathan (Colleen) and Sarah (Brian) Gold. Proud grandmother of Gaku, Hana, Tsubaki and Yui Kawakami, Quinn, Maggie and Evan Loree, William, Joslyn, Charlotte, Elinor and Amelia Gold. Dear sister of Steve (Betsy) Smith, Laura (Clay) Perkins, Phil (Bev) Smith, and Kathy (Jeff) Schanhals.

Susan loved being with her family and she loved to travel. She’s been to places as far as Japan, France, and Greece but one of her favorite places to go to was to the cottage up north to spend time with family. Many late nights were spent there sitting by the bonfire, making smores, stargazing and wishing on shooting stars, and playing games. Susan had a passion for books, the English language, and for teaching. She taught adult ESL for many years and was loved by her students. Many of them came back to her after they were finished with her class and referred to her as their “American mom”.  

Susan was a kind, spiritual, loving, and generous person and will be missed by many who loved her. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 9th, at 11:00 a.m. at North Congregational Church, 36520 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills.
