George L. Liadis

April 26, 1935 - November 30, 2023

George L. Liadis passed away November 30, 2023 at the age of 88. He was the loving husband of the late Frieda Olga (nee Harden); dear brother to the late Regina (late Nicholas) Mavromatis and Anna (late Peter) Zervos; devoted uncle to Kally (Rick Vernon) Mavromatis, Angelo (Kathy) Zervos, Maria (Edward) Power and Limperis (Cynthia) Zervos and cherished great uncle of Alexander (Olivia), Kassiane (Logan Frimodig), Thomas, Liana (Sakis Tsitsipas), Jacob, Maxwell, Peter, Matthew, Christopher, Samuel, Andrew, Alex and Samantha. George also leaves behind many close cousins and lifelong friends.

His mother and father, Limperis and Kalliope were both born in Chios, Greece in the village of Kardamyla. Limperis immigrated to the United States and later returned to marry Kalliope and bring her to the United States. As the second of three children, George grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School, attending Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon) and graduating from the University of Dayton where he received a BS degree in Business Administration. Throughout his youth, George worked in the family painting business, Liadis Brothers Painting Company, where he learned the trade he continued until he was 79 years of age, when he retired (although he was still available to critique painting jobs – constructively, of course).

George lived for over 50 years in sunny San Diego where he could partake in his beloved hobby of golfing. George played many of the great courses where he was happy to play a round, or just hit a few balls with friends. George loved to watch sports and after all the years away from Pittsburgh, he never lost his passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers and followed them until his last days.

In late, 2021, George decided to move to Michigan to be near his sister, Anna, and closer to family.  His nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews have many fond memories, especially from these last few years, and looked forward to Uncle George’s ‘did I ever tell you the story….?’, or a phone call where he announced ‘this is your Uncle George Liadis’ as if no one knew it was him.

George’s family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, December 4th, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with funeral service immediately following at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Road, Farmington Hills. George will be laid to rest at a later date alongside his wife at El Camino Cemetery, San Diego, California.

Memorial Donations in George’s name to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 25225 Middlebelt Rd., Farmington Hills, Michigan 48336 are appreciated.
