Susan Marie Kar, age 83 of Roscommon and formerly of Plymouth, passed away December 1, 2023. A woman of radiant spirit and boundless energy, Susan was the epitome of grace and elegance. She enjoyed a life full of travel, from weeklong trips out west and down south to Branson, Missouri to shorter day trips all over Michigan. It would not be uncommon for some of these trips to involve a pit stop at the casino. Susan also loved to shop and was known for beginning her Christmas shopping as soon as March. No holiday or birthday went without a card or a mountain of wrapped gifts. Surely, Susan kept Hallmark in business. Susan had a memory like a vault, remembering the name of every neighbor in the neighborhood and all the family birthdays. She was the ultimate hostess, putting Martha Stewart to shame, serving anywhere from five to six appetizers at a time. Before you could finish the delicious meal Susan prepared, she would be asking what you would like for dessert. Susan’s love for hosting and spending time with family and friends went hand-in-hand with her gift for storytelling. She was pleased to share stories of her heritage with others and how her family was one of the first settling families in the Elk Rapids and the Grand Traverse area. There is no doubt Susan took great pride in her appearance; never leaving the house without her hair and makeup done. She also took great pride in her home, filling each room with decorations and spending hours out in the yard tending to her flowers. By far, family was the most important to Susan, and she was so proud of her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that will forever be cherished by her loving family and friends. Susan was the beloved wife of the late Richard for 58 years. Loving mother of Michael (Kelly) and Michelle (Nick) Meloche. Proud grandmother of Angelina Kar, Madison Meloche and Harrison Meloche. Dear sister of the late Glen (Gail) and William Gay. Visitation for Susan will be held on Wednesday, December 6th, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 7th, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. In lieu of flowers, Susan’s family recommends the donation of a toy for the Toys for Tots at the funeral home or a donation to the program.Susan Marie Kar
