Rudy B. Pomar

August 10, 1941 - April 20, 2024

Rudy B. Pomar, age 82, passed away April 20, 2024. He was born August 10, 1941 to Tranquilino Pilapil and Feliciana Beringuela Pomar.

Raised in the Philippines, Rudy obtained his college degree before taking an opportunity to start the next chapter in his life and make his way to America. The only one out of his siblings to leave their home country, Rudy started his career in Chicago, Illinois. Through mutual friends in the city, it was there that he met his future wife, Adele. The couple eventually settled in the Detroit area, where they raised their son, Randy. Rudy worked for the Detroit Diesel Corporation, retiring after many years of dedication in assembly work.

As a man who held strong beliefs, Rudy was confident in his views and philosophy on life. With an important focus on education, he was proud of his son’s accomplishments, and always encouraged his nieces and nephews back home to follow the same path. He truly did his best for his family, continuing to help in any endeavor he could. He took many opportunities to travel back to the Philippines and visit his dear family. He proved how much he loved and cared in his own way, and in return his family knew how important they were to him.

On the lighter side of life, Rudy’s humor was one of a kind. He liked to mingle and make people laugh. When he was more on his own, he enjoyed outdoor grilling more than anything. He liked to watch sports, particularly golf. He especially looked forward to watching the Miss America pageants, as well as the Miss Universe pageants, so he and Adele could properly root for Miss Philippines.

Rudy was the beloved husband of the late Adele D. Pomar. Dear father of Randy (Jenny) Pomar.  Proud grandfather of Parker Pomar. Loving brother of Emerlina P. Prado, Tessie B. Pomar, Emelita P. Aquino, the late Juan B. Pomar, the late Eddie B. Pomar, and the late Minenie P. Bleza. He is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering for Rudy will be held on Thursday, May 2nd, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. Scripture Service, at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. His Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, May 3rd, at 10:30 a.m., with gathering beginning at 10:00 a.m., at St. Thomas a’Becket Catholic Church, 555 S. Lilley Rd., Canton. Following the Mass, a luncheon will be held at Rose’s Restaurant, 201 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton.
