Netha "Skip" Elaine Shields

June 25, 1943 - April 18, 2025

Netha “Skip” Elaine Shields, age 81, passed away on April 18, 2025. She was born June 25, 1943, in Lincoln Park, Michigan to Elaine and John Hoot. For 22 years, Netha served as a dedicated receptionist at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, where her compassionate spirit left a lasting impact on patients, visitors, and colleagues alike.

Netha’s kindness extended far beyond the workplace. She was a tireless volunteer, generously giving her time and energy to the American Red Cross, Call for Action through Channel 7, and Habitat for Humanity. Her unwavering commitment to helping others reflected her deeply rooted values of service, empathy, and love.

A passionate world traveler, Netha embraced the richness of life through exploration and adventure. She carried with her a curiosity for different cultures and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the world, always eager to share her stories and experiences with those around her.

Netha was beautiful in every sense of the word—inside and out. She was loving, supportive, selfless, strong, intelligent, and caring. A true role model, she lived her life with grace and purpose, touching countless lives along the way. The world is undeniably a better place because she was in it.

Netha's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Netha was the beloved wife of the late James Shields. Loving mother of Kirk Shields (Tricia Millstead), Dawn Lynn (Brian) Bradley, Mark J. (Natalie) Shields, Kari A. Atkins, and Holly Shields. Proud grandmother of Tyler and Lindsay Shields, Julie Lynn Goulet, Steven Smith II, Brian Bradley, Jr., Mark Shields, Jr., Nicolette, Jacqueline, and James Shields, Daniel James, Sarah, Alyssa, and Jack Atkins, and the late Jason Goulet and William James Bradley. Great-grandmother of Jordan Gallo, Gianna and Sophia Baroli-Goulet, Zoee Mazzacco, Lawson, Nolan, and Callan Stout, and Giavanna Shields. Dearest sister of the late John (Mickey) Hoot. She also leaves behind her longtime partner, Dave Bonzcak.

Visitation for Netha will be held Wednesday, April 23rd, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. Visitation will continue Thursday, April 24th, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Netha will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at West Dayton Cemetery, Mayville.
