Sergelina 'Shirley' Alagon

September 9, 1934 - July 6, 2025

It is with deep sorrow to announce the passing of Sergelina Pelias Alagon (nicknamed Shirley) on a calm Sunday, July 6, 2025. She was 90 years old.

Shirley was born on September 9, 1934 to parents, Florencio Pelias and Felicitas Boloran in the village of Taloto, Tagbilaran City, in the province of Bohol, Philippines. She married Paterno Alagon, who died early in 1967, and was then survived by his wife, Shirley and seven children.

Shirley immigrated to the United States of America on March 31, 1971 as an Operating Room Nurse to support her children, who remained in the Philippines under the care of her in-laws. In 1983, Shirley’s children began immigrating to the United States to join her.

In her early years in America, Shirley was known to have helped numerous nurses that had newly immigrated to the United States get settled into their lives. She excelled in her career as an Operating Nurse and retired in 2001.

Shirley was always there for her friends and willingly helped them in their time of need. They often traveled the United States and Canada and entertained themselves by stopping at one of her favorite places, the casino. Shirley never missed a Sunday mass and never missed a prayer novena for her friends that had passed away.

Shirley cherished time with her family—whether it was traveling together, hosting family gatherings, and cooking her famous pancit. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren shine in their extracurricular activities.

Shirley is survived by her seven children: Lucille (Jeff) Black, Bob (Elaine) Alagon, Bebet (Wilson) Rodriguez, Maleeh (John) Switala, Annette (Mario) Uy, Jay Alagon (Runa Antonio), and Egen (John) Tyler.

Her sixteen grandchildren, who she loved dearly: Shirley Marie, Matthew, EJ, Tonton, Ashley, Rachelle (Steve), Jessica, Ina, Sophia, Angelina, Valerie, Toria (Logan), Marlon, Alexa, Brandon, Vitto and Bianca; and her six great grandchildren: Moira Sofia, Dylan, Jackson, Kai, Micah and Wolf.

Shirley is also survived by one sister, Angeles Zamora; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Shirley will be missed so dearly by her family & wide circle of friends. Rest in heavenly peace Shirley till we meet again.
