John Switala

John Switala, age 63 of Livonia, passed away September 2, 2025. He was born October 23, 1961, in Detroit, Michigan to Chester and Wilma Switala.

John was proud to serve his country starting at the age of 18 in the Army National Guard, attaining the rank of Sergeant and retired in 2021. John dedicated 3 years as a Reserve Police Officer in Inkster and worked as a Protective Service Officer starting in 1992 at the IRS/Social Security offices until his retirement in 2024.

Forthright without a doubt, John’s character was steady and reliable. God, family and country were his driving force, and he preferred to remain humble in all aspects of his life. He cherished the quiet days the most, spending time at home with his family.

John was the beloved husband of Maleeh for 37 years. Loving father of Ashley (Dave). Proud grandfather of Wolf. Dear brother of Brenda (Chris), Sandy (Steve) and Tom (Cholette). He is also survived by many extended family members and in-laws.

Visitation for John will be held on Saturday, September 13th, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Service at 1:30 pm and will conclude with full military honors at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John’s name are appreciated to the American Legion Post 32, 9318 Newburgh, Livonia, Michigan 48150.
