Our mom, Michele Margaret Buchanan, passed away at home on September 18, 2025 with her children by her side. She was born on January 31, 1950 to Townsend and Marcella Dodge. She grew up in Michigan with her two siblings, Lynn and Arlene. Michele’s children, Niki Buchanan, Brian and his wife Laura Buchanan, were the lights of her life until her two grandchildren were born, Kylie and Zach Buchanan. Michele was a Montessori educator and school administrator with her life’s dedication to growing and developing young children.

Michele bravely fought cancer for over 5 years. She showed incredible strength and courage, facing each obstacle head on. We thank everyone who helped and supported our family during her battle, especially Rich & Ann, Joann, and Mary Pat who spent countless hours sitting with her and bringing her chicken noodle soup, through chemotherapy treatments and while she was at home in her final days.

Michele was a friend, aunt, mother and grandmother. She was a caregiver and always helped out those in need. She loved to read, travel to the beach, watch mystery television shows, and take long walks with her dogs. Most of all she liked to spend time with her family and friends.

She was an amazing grandmother that loved to take her grandchildren on adventures and set up pumpkin washing or snow stations in the middle of the kitchen. Her freezer was always stocked with a variety of popsicles and every Christmas she made her famous cookies, that nobody could resist. Even at the end, she lit up when her grandchildren entered the room. We will miss you Gamma and we love you.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 26th at 10:30 am, with a visitation beforehand at 10:00 am, at St. Thomas a’Becket Catholic Church at 555 S. Lilley Rd., Canton, MI 48188.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital or the Huron Valley Humane Society.
