James “Jim” Donald Heymes passed away October 2, 2025 at the age of 93. The joys of his life were his wife, children, and grandchildren. Jim is survived by his wife of 70 years Charlotte and their nine children; Mary, Michael, Jeffrey (Eileen), Anne (John) Kaman, Gerard (Cindy), John (Theresa), Therese (Ray) Blondell, Paul, and Karen (Michael) Lezan. Their grandchildren; Christine (Nick) Penhale, Laura (Chris) Craft, Michelle (Brian) Craft, Jennifer Donnay, Holly (Jon) Wedge, Brian, Jessica Kaman, Tom Kaman, Jeffrey (Kristina) Kaman, Steven (Kelley), Andrea, James, Noah, Tessa, Tim Blondell, Andrew Blondell, Daniel Blondell, Karia Lezan, Katelynn (Corey) Stephens, Jared Lezan, Rachel Lezan, and their thirteen great grandchildren. He was the brother of Barbara DeCrick, Paul Heymes, and dear friend of Sr. Ann Glombowski. He was the brother-in-law of MaryAnn Twigg, Norma Miller, and MaryAnn Miller. Jim was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Marion Heymes; mother and father-in-law, Ray and Regina Miller; brother Bill and sister-in-law, Eleanor Heymes; sister Sr. Shirley, Heymes; and brothers-in-law, Paul Twigg, Larry Miller, Ray Miller and Lloyd Miller. Jim was born in Detroit, Michigan, attended Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, graduated from University of Detroit, and soon after met Charlotte through the Franciscan Third Order and was called to married life. They remained actively involved in the Catholic church during their 70 years of marriage in which Jim also served in ministries at St. Clare in Grosse Pointe Park and St. Martha in Okemos, such as lector, eucharistic minister, religious education teacher, RCIA leader, and the Knights of Columbus. Jim was a member of Kiwanis International for 49 years and served as President of the Detroit #1 Club, Governor of Michigan Kiwanis, Michigan Secretary, and numerous other positions serving communities throughout Michigan and beyond. As a life member, Jim and Charlotte have made hundreds of friends around the world through Kiwanis. Jim worked at Detroit Edison for 39 years. He selflessly gave of his time as a Salvation Army bell ringer, has donated gallons of blood, distributed thousands of books to children, served meals to those in need, and countless other acts of generosity. Over his lifetime, Jim enjoyed leading Boy Scouts, entertaining, playing games, camping with his family, singing songs, keeping a beautiful yard, serving up his specialty high-ball drinks, watching his favorite movie “The Sound of Music”, and traveling the world with Charlotte. Visitation for Jim Heymes will be Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary and Eulogy Service at McCabe Funeral Home – Farmington Hills Chapel, 31950 W. 12 Mile Road, Farmington Hills. Mr. Heymes will lie in state Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 46325 10 Mile Road, Novi. Mr. Heymes will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Twp. Memorial Contributions to St. Bonaventure Monastery in Jim’s name are appreciated.James Donald Heymes
