Mary Clara Bahn, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on June 8, 1941, to Italian-born parents Dino and Rose, Mary was the eldest of three daughters. She grew up in a close-knit Detroit neighborhood where family and food were at the heart of daily life. After graduating from Denby High School, she earned a journalism degree from Wayne State University. Mary met her lifelong partner, Michael Bahn, in the 1960s while both worked at Ford Motor Company. Together, they built a life rooted in love and hard work, founding several information technology and innovation services firms that expanded from metro Detroit to California, Nevada, Florida, and beyond. Mary led the company’s workforce with grace and grit, complementing Michael’s visionary leadership. Her contributions were highlighted with numerous honors, including being recognized for Michigan business leadership by Governor Blanchard in 1984 and named to Nevada’s “Woman of Achievement” roster in 2004. Their marriage was a true partnership, enduring for over six decades. Mary’s strength and warmth were matched only by her devotion to her family. She was a proud mother of three and a doting grandmother to nine, each of whom she personally taught to drive a golf cart along the beaches of Sanibel Island, Florida. Mary’s vibrant spirit, quick wit, and commanding presence left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her birthday cards always ended with “love from Grandma on the beach,” a nod to her cherished years in Sanibel and her desire to stay connected across the miles. She found joy in simple pleasures: watching the Gulf waves, dancing with Michael, taking Italian classes with neighborhood friends, and touring California’s wine country. She was a leader in the Sanibel community, serving on Sundial’s Board of Directors for many years and promoting wildlife preservation with her husband. She was renowned for her deep love of family, her entrepreneurial partnership with Michael, and her talent for cooking grand meals. Her home was always filled with laughter, delicious food, and the comforting presence of someone who truly cared. Mary was a source of wisdom and strength, offering guidance and support through life’s many seasons. Mary is survived by her loving husband Michael; children Michael J (Amii), Marisa R (Jason), and Renee C (Mark); grandchildren Larkin, Brynne, Angelina, Elena, Adam, Elisheva, Sarah, Leah, and Shoshana; sisters Diane (Marc) and Rosanne (Scott); nephew Matthew (Laura); nieces Jessica (Chris), Melissa, and Carla (Sean); and cousins Jim (Pam) and Raymond (Sarah). Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Rose and Dino Tamarre. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she inspired and in the stories shared around family tables for generations to come. Visitation for Mary will be held on Monday, October 27th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 28th, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Eulogy Service at 7:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. She will lie in state on Wednesday, October 29th, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Church (Stone Chapel), 2215 Opdyke Rd., Bloomfield Hills. Memorial donations in Mary’s name may be directed to Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, Attn: Wendy Cerdan, CFO, PO Box 839, Sanibel, FL 33957.
