Edward Mier passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025 in West Bloomfield, Michigan after a long illness. He was born on September 17, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to Walter Mier and Frances Swiatek. He was the dearly beloved husband to Barbara for over 57 years, and they had two children, Jeffrey (Heatherwynn Burton) and Kristi, and was the dear grandfather to Dylan Edward and Caleb Carel. He was the younger brother to the late Leonard (Janet) and dear uncle to Lisa Webb, David (the late Heather Loudon), Brian (Diane), Beth and Amy (Jeff Logan). Dear cousin to Frank (Donna) Tafelski and their children Paul (the late Anne), Michael, Jim and Pamela (Pete Baenen). Also survived by many loving extended family members and friends. Edward grew up in Detroit and attended St. Hedwig High School. He was a successful pitcher for their baseball team and was awarded a scholarship at the University of Detroit, where he had continued success and received his Masters of Business Administration. During his postgraduate studies at Michigan State University, he met the love of his life, Barbara. He went on to have a distinguished career in the automotive industry in the Detroit area as an industrial engineer and cost analyst, while raising his two children in Sterling Heights and Shelby Township. He was a well regarded youth baseball and basketball coach for his son's teams. He retired from Johnson Controls in Plymouth, Michigan in 2003 and discovered a passion for travel with his wife that took him all over the USA, Caribbean, and Europe, with his favorite places being Hawaii and Las Vegas. He spent his later years in Northville and Canton, Michigan. He was a quiet, gentle man with a warm sense of humor and will be deeply missed. A Funeral Mass for Edward will be held on Saturday, December 6th, (Mass time to be confirmed), with memorial gathering prior, at St. Fabian Catholic Church, 32200 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s name can be made to Michigan Parkinson Foundation, Congregation of Every 1, or a favorite charity of your choice.
