John Drauer

January 28, 1941 - December 5, 2025

John Raymond Drauer, age 84 of West Bloomfield, passed away December 5, 2025. He was born January 28, 1941 to Raymond and Colette Drauer.

Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, John was a graduate of St. Frances de Sales High School, where he excelled in basketball and was an inductee of their Athletics Hall of Fame. He went on to attend Bowling Green State University, playing Division 1 basketball and earning his bachelor’s degree.

While enjoying some time on Put-in-Bay, John met Shirley Ludwig. The two clicked and the rest was history. They married in Cleveland and began their lives together, starting a family of their own. A move to Cincinnati soon followed, with another move to Jacksonville, Florida, and a final move in 1980, where John and Shirley settled in West Bloomfield. For over 30 years, John worked for Lever Brothers as a sales manager. He not only enjoyed his career but was truly an excellent salesman.

For over 40 years, John was a faithful parishioner of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He remained active in the community, especially as a dedicated member of AA, and sponsored many people over the years. Kindness and patience emanated in all areas of John’s life. A wonderful husband and father, John, cared deeply for his family. In his later years, he always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and travelling to Florida to visit with family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

John was the beloved husband of Shirley for 56 years. Loving father of Dave (Jenna), Mike (Susie) and Mary Kay Bjerke. Proud grandfather of Emma Drauer, Alexandra Drauer, Bryson Bjerke, Anna Drauer, Beckett Bjerke, Tyler Drauer, Bolden Bjerke and Evan Drauer. Dear brother of Jane (the late Don) Borton.

Visitation for John will be held on Wednesday, December 10th, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Scripture and Eulogy Service at 6:00 p.m., at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. He will lie in state on Thursday, December 11th, at 10:30 a.m., until the time of his Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 4300 Walnut Lake Rd., West Bloomfield. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
