Susanne Marie Fitzgerald (née Thompson), age 84, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, at Fox Run Senior Living Community in Novi, Michigan. She was born on March 2, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan to Vincent and Elizabeth “Beth” Thompson.

Susie devoted her life to caring for others. After graduating high school, Susie attended a nursing preparation school where she earned her LPN. She began her career at Beaumont Hospital and later continued her work in private practice. After retiring, Susie poured her time and energy into what brought her the most joy—her grandchildren, her family cottage, and the people she loved.

On August 5, 1967, Susie married Dennis and together they shared 58 years of a devoted and loving marriage.

Susie was known for her energy, creativity, and her gift for making ordinary moments feel special. She loved to vacation and travel, tend to flowers and gardens, host anything and everything, decorate beautifully (especially at Christmas), and keep her home welcoming and organized. She was happiest when caring for her family, whether that meant preparing a meal, planning a gathering, or simply offering a kind word.

Throughout her life Susie was active in her community. When her children were young, she was always helping with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, the school PTO, cheer coaching, and more. Later the family cottage became her favorite place where she made decades of memories with family and friends. In her most treasured role, she became “Super Grandma,” making each grandchild feel uniquely loved.

Susie’s legacy is one of warmth, hospitality, and making people feel valued. Those who knew her will remember her kind words, joyful spirit, and the way she made every gathering memorable.

Susie is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; her children, Brian (Mara) Fitzgerald, and Jennifer (Greg) Michaels; her grandchildren, Tyler, Mackenzie, JD, Erin, and Johnny; her step-grandchildren, Alaina, Alec, and Brayden; and her sister, Sandra. She is preceded in death by her brother, Vin.

A visitation with the family will be held Saturday, January 10th, at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. All who loved Susanne are welcome to attend and celebrate her beautiful life.
