James Mouzakis, age 98 of West Bloomfield, passed away January 20, 2026. He was born June 27, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to Emmanuel and Ida Mouzakis.

A graduate of Detroit’s Mackenzie High School, Jim excelled in sports, particularly baseball and football, playing in several championship tournaments. After graduation Jim entered the military, proudly serving in the United States Navy. Upon his return, he attended University of Detroit where he played football and studied business administration.

Always on the clock, Jim worked seven days a week as owner and operator of his family’s business, People’s Restaurant. Upon his retirement from the restaurant, Jim was finally able to take some time for himself and his family. An avid golfer, he enjoyed many rounds of golf at Pine Lake Country Club and in Florida with his wife Mary during the winter months.

Jim was the beloved husband of the late Mary for 57 years. Loving father of Ann Downing, Karen Larabell, Kathy Hourdakis and Kris Jensen. Proud grandfather of James, Stefanie, Patrick, Sean, Georgeann, Kristen, Alexandra and Gabby. Great-grandfather of Harper, Nadine, Jordana, Angelo, Remi and Ryah. Also survived by his nephew Michael. Jim was predeceased by his parents and his brother Mitchell.

A Funeral Service for Jim will be held on Friday, January 23rd, at 12:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 25225 Middlebelt Rd., Farmington Hills. Burial will follow the service, as Jim is laid to rest in Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia.

Memorial donations in Jim’s name can be made to the American Heart Association or the Golf Association of Michigan.
