Vir Singh Sooch

June 15, 1932 - February 2, 2026

Vir Singh Sooch, 93, of Novi, MI, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 15, 1932, in Punjab, India, to devoted parents Chanan Singh Sooch and Amar Kaur Sooch, Vir grew up in a household with brothers Shangara Singh, Karnail Singh, Jagir Singh and sister Deepa Kaur that all prized education, hard work, and service to others. He earned his Master’s degree from Punjab University in 1956 and went on to a distinguished 30+ year career as a professor at the renowned Lyallpur Khalsa College in Jullundur, Punjab. There, he inspired generations of students with his knowledge, patience, and commitment to Sikh principles of learning, equality, and upliftment.

After immigrating to the United States in 1978, Vir made Michigan his home for many decades, living in welcoming communities including Canton, Madison Heights, Sterling Heights, South Lyon, and West Bloomfield. In the United States, he devoted much of his time to selfless service (seva) at the local Gurdwara, where he contributed with quiet dedication—whether through volunteering, helping with langar, presiding, supporting community events, or being a steady, comforting presence for the sangat. His life of service was a natural extension of the values he lived and taught throughout his career and family life.

Above all, Vir was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and family patriarch. His quiet wisdom, patience, kindness, and steady presence guided and comforted those around him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Iqbal Kaur Sooch; his sons, Arvinder S. Sooch, and Vin Sooch; his cherished grandchildren, Alex Sooch, Sean Sooch, Amanda Sooch and Mia Sooch; and an extended family deeply enriched by his love and counsel.

Vir found joy in life’s simple and sacred moments: Gurdwara, Family gatherings, offering thoughtful guidance drawn from his years in India. His life was a beautiful example of Sikh values—seva, humility, integrity, and grace.

A public visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI 48334.

Following the visitation, a religious service will take place at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Mata Tripta Ji Gurudwara, 40600 Schoolcraft Road, Plymouth, MI (734-420-1718).

From his birth in Punjab on June 15, 1932, through his impactful teaching career at Khalsa College and decades of devoted Gurdwara seva in Michigan, Vir Singh Sooch leaves an enduring legacy of intellectual dedication, selfless service, familial love, and quiet perseverance. He touched countless lives with his dignity, warm heart, and unwavering commitment to others—he will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
