The family of Susan Dorothy Aschoff (nee. Flaker) of Farmington Hills is saddened to announce her passing on Friday, February 27th at the age of 77 years. Susan was born and raised in Wycoff, New Jersey to Jacob and Beatrice Flaker. After graduating high school, Susan attended secretarial school at Berkeley College in New York City and soon after found work as a secretary. It was at work she met Martin Aschoff. They fell in love and married on November 29, 1969. They were married for nearly 50 years before Martin passed away on October 6th, 2019.

Susan and Martin began their family with the birth of their son Darren, followed by sons, Bryan and Jeff, and their daughter Jennifer. Their lives took them from New Jersey to Burnsville, Minnesota and finally to Farmington Hills, Michigan. Susan was a devoted and incredibly loving mother, spending most of her time as a homemaker. Susan always put her children first and made sure they had everything they needed and many things they wanted. 

Her children married and had children themselves. Susan was loved by her son and daughters-in-law Bruce, Dana, Maghan and Jude and her 12 grandchildren Eleanor, Sophie, Ryland, Sydney, Owen, Ruby, Piper, Zoe, Mia, Calvin, Emerson and Brandon. She is survived by her older brother Jake and preceded in death by her older sister BettyLu.  

Susan loved most of all taking care of her family. She took great care to plan thoughtful Christmas gifts, wedding events, memory books for her kids’ milestone birthdays and of course many family trips over the years. Susan enjoyed cooking and baking and took pride in feeding her loved ones. She loved spoiling and playing with her grandchildren and even helped take care of them as often as she could. Susan was never afraid to do things on her own including driving 11 hours to visit her kids in Minnesota, attending the wedding celebrations of nieces and nephews in Ohio or downloading the latest phone apps to follow her grandchildren’s adventures.  

Susan will be greatly missed and admired for her love, strength and kindness. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 18th from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a 3:00 p.m. Memorial Service at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills.
