Margaret Zywicki

October 27, 1939 - April 11, 2026

Margaret Mary Zywicki, age 86 of Dearborn, passed away April 11, 2026. She was born October 27, 1939, in Detroit, to Adam and Stella Sawicki.

Truly the matriarch of her family, it was Marge that brought everyone together. Raised with strong Polish values, Marge continued to put God and family at the center of it all. She kept traditions alive, especially through her famous golumpki recipe, which will be hard to replicate to her perfection. Her strong work ethic extended beyond the home, dedicating many years to her career as a mail carrier before her retirement from the post office.

Her love story with her late husband was one she cherished deeply. Their song “Twilight Time” remained close to her heart throughout her life, set as a reminder of a love that kept its spark beyond time. She often described their meeting as love at first sight, and their life together was filled with companionship, laughter and adventure. Many photos captured them just as they were - looking at one another with deep love and connection.

As a devoted grandma, Marge took exceptional care of all her grandchildren. From hosting sleepovers, making sure all mouths were fed, to simply just being there, she always provided a comforting and guiding light. She could be described by many as stern but loving, a kind soul, and everything one could want a grandma to embody. Fun and full of life, Marge looked forward to Halloween, her favorite holiday. All year round she kept the spirit, enjoying scary movies and watching The Twilight Zone. She was an enthusiastic sports fan from a very young age. Since sports were “only for the boys” while growing up, Marge did the next best thing by becoming a superfan, cheering on her hometown teams, especially the Lions and Tigers. She truly carried that “Motor City grit”. Marge also loved to go on a good adventure, traveling across the United States. Las Vegas and Hawaii held a special place in her heart, and she loved to talk about all the good times she had, including her frequent trips to the casino. One of her last and favorite adventures was venturing halfway across the country to see the solar eclipse. She didn’t want to watch a simple video of it; she had to be there and see it for herself. Her love of this journey is remembered by a magnet that hangs on her fridge with a handwritten note that reads “I was there!” Her need to be there in person is a testament to how she led her life. She is known as the one who always showed up.

Confident in who she was, Marge held strong convictions and was a true go-getter. She seized every opportunity that came her way. Often masked as stubbornness, it was only fearless determination in her pursuits. She never backed away from voicing her opinions on any topic, yet never stopped anyone from living their life the way they wanted. Her exceptional memory served her well in life and even extended beyond the practical when it came to music lyrics and Turner Classic Movies trivia.

No matter the circumstance, Marge could be counted on for the greatest advice. She was fair and understanding, not just to family, but to everyone she met. Her willingness to provide an honest reflection was always combined with the best of intentions. She was a constant supporter of the underdog and taught everyone that a different perspective may be what you need to find peace. As a devout Catholic, her faith shaped the way she lived. Her genuine warmth, along with her unmatched and amusing quips, will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marge was the beloved wife of the late Marvin for 47 years. Loving mother of Michelle Swift and Mike (Cheri) Zywicki. Cherished grandmother of Michael (Anne) Zywicki, Tanya (Nicholas) Lloyd, Holly (Austin) Socha, Jack (Kassi Stark) Zywicki, Jason (Keerstin Harbison) Swift, Max (Julie Dietz) Zywicki and Jessilyn (Lance) Engstrom. Great-grandmother of Ashton, Annabelle, Zidane, Lily, Cyrus and Winnie. Dear sister of the late Melvin (Gwen) Sawicki, the late Arlene (the late Stanford) Phillips and the late Suzanne (the late John) Lambie. Marge will also be missed by many dear nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass for Marge will be held on Thursday, April 16th, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Church, 21892 Gudith Road, Woodhaven. Following Mass, she will be laid to rest in St. Hedwig Cemetery, Dearborn Heights.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marge's name can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
