Joseph Litvin

April 18, 1928 - April 14, 2026

Joseph T. Litvin, age 97, of Farmington Hills, passed away April 14, 2026. He was born April 18, 1928, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Louis and Dora Litvin.

Joe was born in Baltimore, but moved to Detroit with his mother and sister Sally at age 5, after the loss of his father. He always thought of himself as a Detroiter and had many memories of growing up in the neighborhood of 14th and Euclid.

His schooling happened entirely in Detroit, graduating from Cass Tech High School. He had his fondest school memories of Cass Tech, where he studied drafting and was the editor of the school newspaper. He made many long-lasting friendships while at Cass Tech. After high school, he completed some studies at Wayne State University.

Upon leaving Wayne State, he began working in sales at various fabric companies. The highlight of this early part of his career was meeting his wife Laura while they were both working at Morganroth Fabrics. They married in June of 1964 and lived in Detroit until 1969. They then moved to Farmington Hills where they spent 57 wonderful years together, raising their daughters, celebrating many holidays, birthdays, and happy family occasions. Joe enjoyed a long career in sales working for Newell Window Furnishings making many friends with his customers throughout the country.

Joe loved to read and continued learning throughout his entire life. Another one of his passions was classical music, listening on a daily basis to the great composers as well as more contemporary ones. He also got great pleasure from getting together with friends for card parties. Joe and Laura loved travelling, visiting family and friends around the world. Once retired, he also found various ways to give back to the community through volunteering. He was known throughout his life as a man who lived uprightly, doing good quietly.

Joe was the beloved husband of Laura for 61 years. Loving father of Elisa and Jennifer. Dear father-in-law of Doug. Cherished grandfather of Austin and Ashley. Beloved uncle to many nieces, nephews, and their families. Preceded in death by his devoted sisters Mamie and Sally.

Commemorations for Joe will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Salvation Army, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
