Lisa Rush, age 71 of Bloomfield Hills, passed away April 4, 2026. She was born March 26, 1955, in Detroit, to Charles and Erika Rush. She grew up in Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky. Lisa graduated with honors from Michigan State University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. During her career, she worked for GM and EDS; at the latter she was the MVS Software Services Manager in Auburn Hills, MI and later held this position nationally. She retired in 2007. Lisa enjoyed traveling, and visited Russia, Germany, Scandinavia, Great Britain, Nova Scotia, Costa Rica, Italy and France, as well as many parts of the US. But her favorite place was Detroit. She was proud to be a Detroiter, and was a champion of its history, architecture, culture and people. She joined Preservation Detroit as a volunteer in the mid-1980s and was a steadfast and regular supporter of the organization for over 40 years. She volunteered each year with their Theater Tour Program from its inception in the late 1980s. In the early years of that program, she volunteered for pre-tour clean-ups of a few of the mothballed theaters (the National, Adams and Telenews Theaters) on the tour route. Starting in 2000, she worked diligently to help build the organization’s Weekly Eastern Market Tour into the successful program that it is today. She was a board member from 2004 thru 2007, and served as the Board Secretary. She also served on the committee that provided direction for the organization’s entire Tours Program and handled hosting and logistics for their yearly Tours Recruitment Meetings. Lisa decided to write a book on Eastern Market because none existed when she retired. She teamed up with Randall Fogelman (at the time Eastern Market’s VP of Business Development) and in 2013 their book was published by Arcadia Publishing. Lisa often lectured on Eastern Market and was particularly fond of working with students. For many years, Lisa assisted the University of Michigan’s Urban Design Program with a design charrette of the Eastern Market and surrounding neighborhoods. Aside from her volunteer activities, in her spare time, Lisa enjoyed playing the piano, making stained glass, researching the family tree, cooking, and if you were lucky enough to be the recipient of her yearly Christmas cookie bake, you knew she enjoyed baking. Nothing was as special to her as her family and friends. Lisa was the cherished daughter of the late Charles and the late Erika Rush, and loving sister of Erika Rush (Dave). She will be dearly missed by her family in the US and abroad, and the many cherished friends she made throughout her life through her career, the neighborhoods where she lived, and her volunteer work. Interment will be private. She will be laid to rest in Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia.Lisa Rush
