Liliana Luvini Pomodoro

August 26, 1940 - May 10, 2026

We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear Liliana Pomodoro. She passed away peacefully at the age of 85 and was deeply loved by her family and friends.

She was born in the town of San Andres, Argentina. In her youth, she worked at her father's automotive components factory. She later met her husband, Dr. Luis Pomodoro. They married in the mid-1960s and had two children, Veronica and Leonardo. In 1973, they took a leap of faith and moved to the United States, where their third child, Christian, was born.

Liliana pursued her education in Spanish literature with great distinction. She earned an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts from Oakland Community College, graduating with high honors and receiving full scholarships to continue her studies. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 1994 and a Master of Arts in 1998, both from Wayne State University, along with many additional honors throughout her academic journey. She proudly used that education to teach Spanish at Wayne State University.

Liliana had a deep love for dancing, roller skating, painting, teaching, traveling, cooking, and the great outdoors. She passed her passion for roller skating on to her children and helped get them started with skiing. Summers were filled with countless trips to the beautiful Great Lakes beaches and frequent visits to one of her favorite places, Kensington Metro Park, where family and friends gathered for traditional Argentine barbecues, known as asados. During cold Michigan winters, she would escape to Florida or return to her beloved Argentina to spend time with loved ones.

Liliana will be remembered for her unique and magnetic personality. She was an incredibly attentive host who always threw the best parties. Her dedication to educating and helping those around her was second to none. She volunteered at retirement homes and in her church choir, bringing both knowledge and joy to those in need. She also enjoyed donating to one of her favorite charities, St Jude Children's Hospital.

She was widowed in 2013 and is survived by her children, Veronica (Ferris) Gabriel, Leonardo Pomodoro, and Christian (Judith) Pomodoro. She was also the devoted grandmother to her three handsome grandsons, Andrew, Jonathan, and Kaio.

In true Liliana fashion, she always had a word of advice at the ready: "Don't forget to eat your proteins!"

May she rest in eternal peace. She will be loved and cherished always, and her impact will be remembered for generations to come.

Liliana will lie in state on Monday, May 18th, from 1:30 p.m. until the time of her Funeral Mass at 2:30 p.m. at St. Fabian Catholic Church, 32200 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills.

Memorial donations may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Lung Association.
