James R. Grubb

December 29, 1934 - July 8, 2026

James R. Grubb, age 91, of Canton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026.

Jim was the beloved husband of the late Billie Grubb, with whom he shared a loving marriage and a lifetime of cherished memories. He was the devoted father of Jim (Lisa) Grubb and Dawn (Matt) Horn, and the proud grandfather of Donovan Davidson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Theda Turner.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Jim answered the call to serve his country at the age of 18 when he joined the United States Navy. During the Korean War, he served honorably aboard the USS Staten Island and was discharged in 1954. Throughout his life, he carried with him the values of dedication, integrity, and patriotism that defined his military service.

Following his time in the Navy, Jim built a successful 34-year career with General Motors, working at both the Cadillac and Fleetwood plants in Detroit before retiring. Through his hard work and commitment, he provided a wonderful life for his family and was a model of perseverance and responsibility.

Jim met the love of his life, Billie, through their shared passion for skiing. They were married in 1967 and made their home in Canton in 1973, where they raised their children, Jimmy and Dawn, and created a lifetime of treasured family memories.

An avid Corvette enthusiast, Jim owned many Corvettes over the years and was an active member of two Corvette clubs, where he formed numerous lifelong friendships. He was also an accomplished skier and ski instructor at Riverview Highlands, sharing his love of the sport and mentoring countless others on the slopes.

Family was at the center of Jim’s life. He especially treasured summers spent with loved ones at the family cottage in Harrisville, Michigan, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. He also enjoyed golfing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends, always bringing warmth, humor, and kindness to those around him.

Jim will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his proud service to his country, his strong work ethic, and his enthusiasm for life’s adventures. His legacy of loyalty, friendship, generosity, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Visitation for James will be held Monday, July 13, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with an evening service at 6:00 p.m., at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Road, Canton.

He will lie in state on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas a’Becket Catholic Church, 555 S. Lilley Road, Canton.

Burial will follow at Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia.

Jim will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
