Norma Clemente Derro, MD

October 10, 1942 - July 11, 2026

Norma Clemente Derro, MD, age 83, of Farmington Hills, passed away on July 11, 2026.

Norma grew up in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, in the Philippines. She attended the University of Santo Thomas, completing her pre-medical studies before earning her medical degree there as well. In the early 1970s, she came to the United States to complete her internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Rhode Island. She then transferred to Mt. Carmel Hospital in Detroit for her pediatric residency, followed by immunology training at Wayne State University. She went on to work as a staff physician at Lorraine Hospital in Ohio before returning to Michigan, where she practiced at several clinics throughout Southeast Michigan.

Norma was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Throughout her life, she participated in a medical mission in Nueva Ecija, Philippines, and was a member of the Philippine Medical Association of Michigan (PMAM) and the BLD of Michigan.

She was known for her kindness, generosity, and love for those around her. She was quiet in nature, yet strong and determined. Norma enjoyed traveling, real estate, shopping, dancing, and playing the piano, and she cherished her role as a caring mother and lola.

Norma was the beloved wife of Melanio Derro, MD, loving mother of Melanie Derro and proud lola of Tyko Sellers.

Visitation for Dr. Norma Derro will be held Thursday, July 23rd, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, with a Scripture and Eulogy Service at 6:30pm, at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W 12 Mile Rd, Farmington Hills. She will lie in state on Friday, July 24th, from 9:30am until the time of her Funeral Mass at 10:00am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23815 Power Rd, Farmington. Following Mass, Dr. Norma Derro will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield. After services, lunch will be at Fuji Buffet, 32153 John R Rd., Madison Heights.
