Vera Volkova, age 86, passed away August 16, 2026. She was born April 14, 1940, in Baku, Azerbaijan to Nikolai and Nina Kravchenko. Embracing life with a positive enthusiasm, Vera lived her days in the most gracious and loving of ways. Throughout her life she experienced many journeys. Along with her husband’s career came many opportunities for travel and adventure. With an open mind and an open heart, no matter where she settled, she was able to make it a home. In her later years while in the U.S., she especially looked forward to her trips to Turkey to visit her daughter and returning to Baku to be with her son, with whom she shared a birthday. Having many passions, Vera expressed her caring nature through cooking and connecting with those around her, including all of God’s creatures. She was a true animal lover, wanting to save any dog that needed a home. Her gentleness was sensed by all, even by the deer that she would feed directly from her hands. In her own home, she shared her love and joy through the food she made, always ready to offer a delicious meal. Above all, the greatest treasure to Vera was her family, especially her cherished granddaughters. Her maternal devotion even extended to her eldest granddaughter, whom she helped raise as if she was her own daughter. She led by example and provided guidance and support whenever needed. She consistently gave of herself, even if it was beyond her means, proving her unmatched selflessness. With all the lives Vera has touched, she will truly be missed beyond measure by all who knew and loved her. Vera was the loving mother of Natalya (Brik), Marina (Hakan), and Andrey (Yuliya). Cherished grandmother of Narmina (Daryl), Melisa, Doga, and Valeria. Dear sister of Natalya and Vladislav. Vera was predeceased by her beloved husband Igor Volkov and her dear son-in-law Tim DeVries. A graveside service for Vera will be held on Wednesday, August 19th, at 12:00 p.m., at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 25800 W. 10 Mile Rd., Southfield, Michigan 48033.
