Gerald L. Kerpet, age 83 of Canton, passed away September 1, 2026. He was born August 7, 1943 in Dearborn, Michigan to Walter and Eleanore Kerpet.

A graduate of St. Alphonsus High School, Jerry went on to serve in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after three years of service. Shortly thereafter, he began a long career with Ford Automotive, advancing to his position as a purchasing agent until his retirement.

Jerry and Bernadette were soulmates and best friends for 50 years, building a family and a life filled with love and laughter. He loved being a father and devoted much of his efforts to his children and the community. For years, he did extensive work with the Order of Alhambra along with heading a special-needs river boat outing for 9 years. He provided needed comedic relief as Binky the Clown for God’s Special Children. Jerry also gave generously of his time through charity and volunteer work as a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Outside of work and helping others, Jerry found time to enjoy many passions in life. He was an avid and skillful woodworker, building furniture and rocking horses for his kids and grandkids. He loved golfing with friends and continued to offer his critiques from the deck once he was no longer able to join in a round.  

Most of all, he loved being with his wife, family and friends. Every year, he and Bernadette enjoyed their annual trip to Aruba. As best friends, they cherished every minute together. Jerry will be missed by so many, as his memory continues in the hearts of all who knew and loved him

Jerry was the beloved husband of Bernadette. Loving father of Michael Kerpet, Dawne (Mark) Menge, and Ken Kerpet. Proud grandfather of Rachel (Nathan) Maniez, Allison Kerpet, and Nick Kerpet. Dear brother of Marcia (Dan) Young, the late Ron (Johanna) Kerpet, the late Christopher (Karen) Kerpet, Mike (Pamela) Kerpet, Charlie (the late Megan) Kerpet, and the late Kathy (Mike) Plackowski.

A memorial gathering for Jerry will be held on Friday, September 18th, at 10:00 a.m., until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas a’Becket Catholic Church, 555 S. Lilley Rd., Canton. Following the Mass, a luncheon in Jerry’s honor will be held at the church.
