My sincerest condolences to Maureen, Kevin, Meghan, and all of Kathy's family. Your mother was a truly wonderful woman with a warm and generous heart. I had the privilege of working with her at FreemanWhite, designing Emergency Departments across the country, and sharing many meaningful conversations along the way. I learned so much from Kathy; she was an expert emergency department nurse with a remarkable ability to patiently help others envision positive change -- not only in their delivery of care, but also in the facilities that support those processes. She was also incredibly patient with us architects, most assuredly myself included. She loved to laugh, was honest and fair in all she did, and spoke up for the underserved while remaining respectful to everyone. She spoke often of the three of you (and her grandchildren) with such pride and joy. While I don't recall ever having the chance to meet you, I can still hear her sharing stories about each of you. I remember she was baffled that this southern boy had never tasted Detroit-style pizza, let alone understood the Motor City's contribution to its unique preparation. She remedied that when we were working together in Royal Oak, and I will forever think of Kathy every time I see a pizza conveyor belt. Go Red Wings, too. Most importantly, I will remember Kathy for her kindness and wisdom, and how she extended both to me. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
