I have many memories of Mr. Ciosek, from running in and out of his house as a kid, seeing him at St. Michael's Church, but especially as my baseball coach. In 1977 we played for the city championship, and I think he was just as excited as we players were. At Mass the day before the game he came all the way up to the front of the church to shake my hand during the "peace be with you's". As he shook my hand, he said "Remember, if you do things the right way, good things happen." Late in the game we had a lead, but the other team was rallying, and with a runner on first, the batter hit a ball down the third base line. I was playing leftfield, and as I ran toward the ball, it was going slow enough to allow me to pick it up with my bare hand, the way he taught us to do. Picking it up that way aloowed me the time to throw the lead runner out at third, ending the inning and the rally. As I ran to the dugout George ran out to me, grabbed me, and with a big smile on his face said "See... I told you! When you do things the right way good things happen!" His joy was infectious... and it will be missed.
Memories
Dad, I will forever hold cherished memories of you in my heart! You filled our lives with love, faith, laughter, food, and sports. Thanks for teaching me to put faith, traditions, friends, and family first. You were my rock, my teacher, my comedian, and most generous dad! I love you to the moon!!! xoxo Sharon Sue
I have known the family for over 30 years. I'm friends with his daughter Janice. There are many special moments that come to mine but the most recent was when he was at the assisted living facility in Farmington. Jan and I visited him (last summer)and friend Rose. We walked in at dinner time and sat down and after a half hour of nice conversation we started to sing some old favorite Frank Sinatra tunes. He knew all the verses as if he was dancing along in a large ballroom. It was delightful to see the sparkle in his eyes. Jan and I would speak daily and she admired and loved her Dad very much. I feel honored to have shared that special time with someone she adored. God Bless and you will be missed! Sharon Maher
