I Remember...

I just wanted to reach out to all my cousins to send condolences on Uncle dick's passing. I'll never forget those priceless summer days spent at the cottage, sailing, waterskiing, enjoying great summertime food and generally having the time of our lives. Nothing can take those memories from us and we will have them always. Here's to a life well lived and a shining example to us all. May you rest in peace, Uncle dick. With all our love, Kevin and Pam

It was with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Richard who I have known for many years. He was an expert on gear machines and a wonderful man. When I first joined MDNA in 1978 he was extremely kind to me as a new member and most friendly. Unfortunately, as you know, i live in the UK or I would have certainly attended the requiem mass in St Regis Church, Bloomfield Hills. Please pass this message on to all of the family. I also knew Nick Gibbs. I am 86 years old now but still at the coalface a few days a week. Please accept my sincere condolences.

How can I describe the love and joy I felt from the Gibbs family? I was the odd duck out by any standard, yet, the Gibbs family welcomed me in, without judgment. What I felt they offered me, was an opportunity to grow, to become. My goodness, they even housed me just before I moved west. And who sets the tone for the family? Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs. They were kind, generous, and patient. Thank you for befriending me! Thank you for hosting me! Thank you for letting me be a work in progress! So many beautiful dinners and visits at the cottage! Always an opportunity for me to learn by example. Jamie, Hon, Joe, Mimi, Katie, and Larry, thank you for sharing our younger days together, and thank you for sharing your extraordinary parents with me. Such a deep loss! My condolences to you all!

So many great memories...the tunnel or bridge off to Leamington. Descending thru The Enchanted Forest to the beach, learning to water ski and sail. Amazing Aunt Anne Marie, my Godmother, making always fabulous dinners, notably the chicken parm... Uncle Dick would lead the story telling and banter from the lakeside chair in the screened porch, into the night, so much fun. I was taking a run with him in Lake Tahoe when he snapped a snow ski and a rib or two. Always cheerful, he finished the run on one ski and said "let's get some lunch ". Truly an extraordinary life lived by a unique and wonderful man. Now going home. Hi to Larry, Katie, Mimi, Joe, Honey and Jamie, with warmest regards. Todd

my RJ's Fallen Cherry Tree Remembrance Just like George Washington, RJ, too, had a Cherry tree story. RJ's brother Bill , Randy and I were at the Leamington Golf Course awaiting Rj's arrival after a Cottage Birthday Saturday Night. In a cloud of dust the dark blue Lincoln with the trailer hitch dangling something as the trunk opened and out jumped the golf bag minus the usual complement of . Randy and I recognized the safety brake wire from the boat trailer, but kept our concerns confined to a bug-eyed Yikes glance to each other. 18 holes later, after having seen golf balls do things not ordinarily possible, we returned to the cottage where the lawn was filled with cars, happy to see the trailer at least. Closer inspection revealed the birthday gift Flowering Cherry Tree listing to the east as if flying a half mast. We pieced together the rest of the story in short order with the aid of some others. At RJ's request, I would rearrange the root system of the tree to give it another chance, watering it regularly and sure enough, that all it needed to flower again and again. His reasoning for this landscaping intervention was straightforward enough... "Maybe it just needs a fresh start!" Maybe so RJ, Maybe so!

Returning to Sturgeon Creek after waterskiing in calm waters near the tip of Point Pelee in the 90's. A young boy seeing us on the shore asked RJ if we had caught any fish, to which he declared with a smile, "Fishin' is for OLD GUYS! We were Water Skiing!"
