When I had quad bypass surgery at Beaumont 12 years ago, Ron sat with other family members for comfort. We would take day trips to Frankenmuth and had many little picnics along the summer months. I fondly remember his Wedding, a true Polish event that lasted all day and well into the night, 1959. Ron also played the accordian, better than me for sure. They don't make them like him anymore, RIP.
Memories
Dad was always very encouraging when it came to my cooking and baking, no matter how many glasses of milk it took to get down. One occasion many Christmas's ago I found a recipe for candy cane cookies. The photo in the cookbook was so enticing. I follow the recipe exactly and the cookies came out picture perfect. As soon as they were out of the oven Dad was ready to taste test the cookies. Dad ate several of the cookies with a few glasses of milk and said how wonderful they were! As I finished baking the remaining batches. I decided to try a cookie. It was very salty and becoming rock hard. Twenty minutes into cooling you couldn't even bit into the thing. I checked with Dad again that he actually was eating the candy cane cookie's and again he assured me they were delicious. I said they are salty and hard!I went over the recipe again, all of the ingredients had been added correctly! What was wrong with these cookies. Later on that evening I came to the conclusion that the picture perfect candy cane cookie's were not ment for consumption. The recipe was for baked candy cane cookie ornaments!Dad never wavered in saying that the cookies were delicious and never admitted I had made thing ever that was bad. He wasn't there when I made the seafood pizza!LOL
