Kevin Joseph Barkume, age 63 of Canton, passed away January 28, 2026. He was born March 5, 1962, in Detroit to John and Mary Barkume. Raised in Inkster with two brothers and a sister, Kevin was the youngest of the Barkume children. He graduated from Cherry Hill High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Central Michigan University. He started his professional career with ProQuest in 1999 and made many lifelong friends along the way. The loss is deeply felt by his work family where he was valued and a beloved presence for many years. Through a chance meeting at work, Kevin was introduced to Denise. Their relationship grew naturally as they spent more time together and the two became husband and wife on October 10, 1987. They excitedly welcomed their first daughter, Hallie, in 1996 and their second, Cecilia, in 1998. Family life was fun and full of energy, with constant activities and sports games to attend. Whether hanging out at home, playing catch, or taking vacations, there was always something to do. There were frequent trips to national parks, baseball and college football stadiums. Pokagon State Park and Rocky Mountain National Park were just a few of the favorite places to take the family. Growing up a sports enthusiast, Kevin remained loyal to his home teams and was a huge Detroit Tigers fan. He was also an avid runner, having completed three half marathons and multiple 5Ks. Ultimately, Kevin will be remembered for the great guy he was. He made genuine connections and was always good company. His dry wit was unmatched, even keeping his sense of humor until the very end. Simply put, everyone loved Kevin, as he will truly be missed beyond measure. Kevin was the beloved husband of Denise for 38 years. Loving father of Hallie (John) and Cecilia. Dear brother of Tim (Linda), Aileen, and the late Dann (Judy). He was also the loving uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a lifelong friend to Doug. He was predeceased by his parents and his adored kitty, Mello, who passed last year. He is also survived by his dear grandcats, Ashe, Cannon, Zeke and Nia. Gathering for Kevin will be held on Sunday, February 8th, at 11:00 a.m., until the time of his Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m., at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. A luncheon will immediately follow the service from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Sean O'Callaghan's, 821 Penniman Ave., Plymouth. Please wear your favorite Tigers gear in Kevin’s honor to the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Kevin’s name can be made to the American Red Cross or the Border to Border Trail.
